Event Description

Come and listen to Dr. Kate Brown, professor of history at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, discuss her prize-winning book, Plutopia: Nuclear Families, Atomic Cities, and the Great Soviet and American Plutonium Disasters. Plutopia narrates the history of two communities - Richland, WA and Ozersk in southern Russia - that although enemies, were united during the Cold War by their production of plutonium. A rich social and environmental analysis, Plutopia provides lessons for the people of these communities today. Books available for sale and meet and greet with the author to follow the lecture.
