Guitar Hour

KPBX: Thursday 11am-12pm

Classical guitarist Leon Atkinson joins Verne Windham in the KPBX studio for an hour of live and recorded music.

Today, Leon and Verne welcomed classical guitarist Brad Richter to the studio for a live guitar hour performance.  Brad comes to town every year for his performance at the Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center in Post Falls, Idaho.  He's back again, and his concert is tomorrow  night (Friday) at 7:00pm with cellist Viktor Uzur.  He gave us a preview of that concert as well as a compelling discussion with Leon and Verne about his past experiences and thoughts on all things guitar.

With Christmas one week away, Leon Atkinson invites the Sandpoint High School Choir and the Powell Brothers back to the studio for the annual Guitar Christmas Party.

Harvest Home is produced and hosted by Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, a husband and wife duo who won international acclaim for music on PBS's Civil War documentary.

The songs featured on this special program culled from Jay and Molly's archive of traditional and historical American recordings. Artists include Chet Atkins, Bill Monroe, Pete Seeger, and Merle Haggard.  The songs all have a theme of autumn, Thanksgiving, and of course food!

This Thursday, Oct. 2, The Guitar Hour starts at 10 a.m. for a two-hour KPBX special. Guests Alex de Grassi and Brad Richter perform, plus host Leon Atkinson previews the Harp Guitar Convention taking place that weekend in Coeur d'Alene. "We have all these people representing the wonderful guitar events taking place in the region, and we'll be able to have these great artists interacting on the radio," says co-host Verne Windham.
