Event Description

Narrative Photography

This course examines the use of narrative within fine art and journalistic photography. Photographers interested in telling or referencing stories in their work will be given the opportunity to develop their ideas and skills in narrative strategies by looking at alternative narratives and compositions within the world of photography.

This course will cover the fundamentals of crafting a photographic series, such as sequencing, combining portraits, still lives, landscapes, abstract images, etc. We will find the relationship between our images and various image making processes and strategies.

Another aim of this course is to challenge traditional notions and expectations of narrative. Students will create and finish a photo series throughout the course and participate in critiques, written assignments, group discussions, and image making assignments.

Students should have their own photography equipment and means of printing / sharing their photographs with the class.

This 4-week course meets Thursdays from 9/19 to 10/10 from 6-8 pm. $80 course fee includes instruction.
