2nd Harvest Opens Teaching Kitchen

Spokane’s food bank is moving into a new realm when it comes to helping families enjoy nutritious meals. The Second Harvest Food Bank has a new project. They are putting in a 1,700 square foot community kitchen into their warehouse.

The food bank's Melissa Cloninger says the plan is to be able to offer free food preparation courses to many of the banks clients to make better use of the food they get.

Cloninger: “They don’t really know how to prepare those foods into a healthy tasty meal that would provide greater health for their family and they could also use to stretch their limited financial resources.”

Cloninger says the kitchen will open in early June. They also plan to prepare frozen meals at the kitchen that can be sent out with their mobile food bank to serve to clients in rural areas.

You can find out more about the community kitchen by visiting the website 2-harvest.org.
