Avalanche Kills Two On Silver Mountain

UPDATED: 6:10 am

Two people were killed in an avalanche Tuesday morning at the Silver Mountain Ski Resort near Kellogg.

The Shoshone County Sheriff's office confirmed the fatalities in a post on its Facebook page. The people have not yet been publicly identified. The resort says five others were rescued with minor injuries.

The resort says it appears all skiers have been accounted for.

Shoshone County authorities reported earlier that calls into the office suggested there may have been as many as three avalanches. Silver Mountain reported the avalanche hit the Wardner Peak area.

The Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center rates the avalanche danger as high in that area.
