Eastern Washington Fire Update

Johnny Walker

While the air quality in Spokane may have cleared up, fires in the state continue to burn.

Residents near Twisp continue to be displaced by The Crescent Mountain fire. Mandatory evacuations remain in place for everyone living west of the Little Bridge Creek Intersection in the Twisp River Valley. Residents have been evacuated since August 21.

The Horns Mountain Fire burning near Northport is now 90 percent contained. The fire, which crossed into Canada last week, is now in the mop up stage.

The Boyds fire near Kettle Falls is still burning 4,700 acres, but is 85 percent contained. Officials say rain fell over the fire on Monday, helping in firefighters’ efforts. All evacuation orders have been lifted at this time.

In Spokane County, the air quality is currently classified as “Good” by the Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency. The agency says the air should remain in the good and moderate categories through at least Wednesday.
