Professional planners have been hard at work for months now on the best ways to use some prime river front land in Coeur d'Alene. Now they want some ideas from the public. The Four Corners Project, as it's called, runs from Independence Point on Lake Coeur d'Alene through federally owned land along the river to the east end of Riverstone.
The idea is to take best advantage of a land acquisition windfall sparked by abandonment of BNSF Railroad right of way along the route into downtown Coeur d'Alene.
An open house and public workshop this coming Wednesday is aimed at getting public feedback on planning work to date and any new ideas that may arise. Planners foresee a mix of public and private development along the thin strip of riverside land with an emphasis on public access to the river.
Wednesday's workshop will have schematic drawings of development proposals for six main sections of the Four Corners project, and visitors will be invited to fill out comment sheets with suggestions for further consideration.
The workshop begins at 5 pm Wednesday at the Coeur d'Alene public library.
