Insurance Commissioner Examines Premera After Cyberattack

Premera health insurance

Washington’s Insurance Commissioner has launched a multi-state market examination of Premera Blue Cross. The company disclosed last week that 11 million customers were exposed to a cyberattack that allowed access to personal information.

Insurance commissioner Mike Kriedler outlines what the investigation will entail.

Kriedler: “We want to find out what kind of information was compromised, when it was compromised, what steps they have taken to mitigate their policy and even people who formerly were policyholders.”

Kreidler says there are six-million current and former Premera policy holders in Washington. He says he has serious concerns with how long it took Premera to notify its policyholders of the breach.
