Idaho voters go to the polls today [Tuesday] for a special election on school and special taxing district-related measures.
Two school districts whose supplemental levies failed in March are trying again. The Post Falls School District measure was just a few dozen votes short of victory. The West Bonner County levy lost by about three points. Superintendent Paul Anselmo blamed the defeat on low voter turnout. He says the district has worked hard to remind people to get out to vote.
Those need a simple majority to pass.
Bonner County is asking voters to approve an $8.7 million bond issue to pay for improvements to the county’s solid waste system and the Kootenai County Fire District seeks nearly $15 million in taxpayer money to create a new, fifth fire station and relocate two existing fire stations to more centralized locations.
There are also dozens of candidates vying for board seats in school districts and a variety of special taxing districts.
Polls are open from 8 am to 8 pm.
