A new film that looks at the journey of a lone wolf is playing in Spokane this week. 'OR-7, the Journey' tells the story of a male wolfs 1,000 mile journey from eastern Oregon to California, then back to the west side of Oregon State.
Amarouq Weiss of the Center for biological diversity says besides the story of this specific wolf, the film take s a look at the history of the animals in the United States.
Weiss: “The fact we used to have wolves across the entire 48, that we pretty much eradicated the wolf in the country, and when the wolf was placed on the endangered species act, in the 1970’s that the wolf , that wolf began to make a slow recovery in parts of the country.”
OR-7 is a radio collared wolf, which helped the filmmaker track his wanderings. The male wolf was able to find a mate on the west side of the Oregon cascades and has established the first wolf pack in that region in 70 years.
OR-7 the Journey is playing at the Bing Crosby theater on Friday and Saturday. A Q and A session will follow the 7pm screening. Organizers say the film has sold out in other theaters. Tickets are available through the Bing Crosby website.
