Spokane Hires New City Administrator From San Diego

Spokane Mayor Nadine Woodward has named a new city administrator.

Johnnie Perkins comes from San Diego. He was most recently the deputy chief operating officer and director of environmental services for the city of San Diego. He has also been an executive at two solid waste companies.

Woodward touts that combination of public and private sector experience, including his work with labor groups and negotiating labor agreements.

Perkins said in a city news release that he has family in the area and that the new job is a nice fit both professionally and personally.

Perkins will begin the job April 12. He will replace acting city administrator Scott Simmons, who is also the city’s public works director. Simmons took over for administrator Wes Crago last fall. Crago abruptly left the job after less than a year to go back to Ephrata.
