Go ahead and soak in that view of the Spokane River if you drive past or across it this week. Spokane is rated as the number two city for best American riverfront. USA Today and the website 10 Best collaborated on the poll, naming the best city through votes by the public.
Spokane is listed as number two on the website 10best.com alongside a wide shot of the city’s skyline, river, and Gonzaga University. The fact that the river runs through downtown helped Spokane win, and, as USA Today puts it, “a series of footbridges and viewing platforms allow visitors to view the upper and lower falls from nearly every angle, but the best views come from above, aboard the SkyRide over the falls”.
But this romantic picture of Spokane still didn’t land it as number one for best American riverfront. That title goes to Wilmington, North Carolina, with a colorful riverwalk that’s lined with 200 cafes, bars and shops.
Spokane was the only west coast city to make the top ten list.
