From the Studio: Northwest Bach Festival Spotlight - Scott Rawls, Viola

Mentioned in conjunction with violinist Kurt Nikkanen, Scott Rawls is the violist in Zuill Bailey's string trio being featured in this year's Northwest Bach Festival, a tradition within Spokane's classical music scene. Scott is currently the Associate Professor of Viola and Chair of the Instrumental Music Department at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He also plays viola in the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra.  He will be performing various concerts featuring himself and string trio repertoire with Zuill Bailey (Artistic Director, cello) and Kurt Nikkanen (violin). Verne talked with him in the studio today about his various experiences, background, repertoire, and collaborations in preparation for the Bach Festival.

Verne Windham got his start at Spokane Public Radio 20 years ago. “I came in to complain and they hired me.” He’s now the Program Director, as well as the host of Morning Classical and Concert of the Week. When choosing music for Morning Classical, Verne likes to keep the agenda as broadly defined as possible. For Concert of the Week, he focuses on the best of recent local performances, mostly classical in nature. For many years, Verne was also the conductor of the Spokane Youth Orchestra. He enjoys gardening, his vintage car and playing French horn.
