From the Studio: Yuliya Gorenman on the Piano Bench (Part 1)

Spokane Public Radio

Award-winning American pianist Yuliya Gorenman will delight audiences at BachFest Scheherazade at 7 pm Tuesday at The Coeur d'Alene Resort Hotel and Wednesday at 7 pm at Barrister Winery in Spokane.  Born in Odessa, Ukraine, and raised in Almaty, Kazakhstan, she first achieve international acclaim in 1995 as a prizewinner of the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition in Belgium.  Since then she has been continually invited to perform solo, chamber and orchestral concerts throughout the world. Yuliya's "artistic fire, extraordinary virtuosity and the depth of her interpretations" have garnered praise.

Verne Windham got his start at Spokane Public Radio 20 years ago. “I came in to complain and they hired me.” He’s now the Program Director, as well as the host of Morning Classical and Concert of the Week. When choosing music for Morning Classical, Verne likes to keep the agenda as broadly defined as possible. For Concert of the Week, he focuses on the best of recent local performances, mostly classical in nature. For many years, Verne was also the conductor of the Spokane Youth Orchestra. He enjoys gardening, his vintage car and playing French horn.
