Spokane’s city council will meet today (Thursday) and discuss the findings of an independent report on the city ombudsman commission. The eight findings show workplace misconduct against a staff member, who is not named in the report.
Claims include that the commissioners created a negative workplace for the staffer, asked the staffer to alter meeting minutes, and pushed for evaluations of staff before they hired a new ombudsman.
Council President Ben Stuckart said Wednesday the council is acting to remove the members per Mayor David Condon’s request.
Stuckart: “There were many different findings, from breach of confidentiality which each commission member signed an agreement to keep matters confidential. Yet in public meetings, numerous times, people that had filed complaints were named. We take workplace harassment very seriously.”
Stuckart has asked Rachel Dolezal, Adrian Dominguez, and Kevin Berkompas (ber-compass) to resign. Dolezal has sent a statement saying she won’t.
The ombudsman commission was scheduled to select and hire a new police ombudsman by the end of summer.
