2nd Annual Porchfest Music Festival

Somerville Porchfest 2012

Imagine hosting a live music festival at your home, or more specifically your front porch

That’s what some Spokane folks have planned for this Saturday.

The event is called Porchfest-West Central. The general concept is several residents of the West Central neighborhood are hosting live musicians and poets, right on their front porch.

It’s the second year for the event.

Organizer Marshall Peterson says he got the idea from other communities around the country that host such an event. Given that the West Central neighborhood now has the new Kendall Yards development, he thought it might be a good way for old and new residents to mix it up:

“There’s a little bit of socio economic disparity between the two communities, although I think its much more perceived that it actually is. I figured why not stick musicians on people’s porches and let them interact with each other."

There are 11 homes hosting a wide array of musicians and poets between 3 and 7 o’clock this Saturday. You can find the complete listing and a map on their website: www.porchfestwestcentral.com

Steve has done various on air shifts at the station, including nearly 15 years as the local Morning Edition host. Currently, he is the voice of local weather and news during All Things Considerd, writing, editing, producing and/or delivering newscasts and features for both KPBX and KSFC. Aside from SPR, Steve ,who lives in the country, enjoys gardening, chickens, playing and listening to music, astronomy, photography, sports cars and camping.
