Spokane Ensemble Theater presents "Spokane Sings Sondheim"

Singers Melody Heaton and Rio Alberto join Verne Windham in the KPBX studio.

Verne Windham welcomes Inland Northwest Opera Director of Marketing Melody Heaton and Spokane Ensemble Theatre (SET) Artistic Director Rio Alberto to the studio to discuss SET's upcoming event, "Spokane Sings Sondheim." They'll discuss the genesis of the project and examine the process of putting together a show like this. They'll also share a few pieces from the showcase.

Featuring 10 Spokane-based professional performers, "Spokane Sings Sondheim" celebrates the legacy of American composer Stephen Sondheim. This event will take place at Birds in the Coast, 709 N. Monroe, on March 10, 2022 at 7 PM.

Verne Windham got his start at Spokane Public Radio 20 years ago. “I came in to complain and they hired me.” He’s now the Program Director, as well as the host of Morning Classical and Concert of the Week. When choosing music for Morning Classical, Verne likes to keep the agenda as broadly defined as possible. For Concert of the Week, he focuses on the best of recent local performances, mostly classical in nature. For many years, Verne was also the conductor of the Spokane Youth Orchestra. He enjoys gardening, his vintage car and playing French horn.
