"Compact" Discs Still Take Up Lots Of Space

Program Director Verne Windham and Operations Manager/Jazzman Brian Flick with the first load of CDs from the Hoban Building to the Fire Station.

SPR staff this week experimented with ways to bring the thousands of CDs to their new home. For many years, CDs were stored on shelving units volunteer Don MacNaughton built specifically for KPBX. Verne Windham and Brian Flick figured out how to use those units as moving boxes so the CDs can go directly in order on the new Fire Station CD shelves.

Verne and Brian are also laying out equipment options for the new broadcast studios. When equipment does arrive for KPBX, KSFC and KPBZ, what's the most logical place for each sound board, computer screen, CD player, record player, etc?  Brian cut placeholders out of large sheets of paper and laid them on the new studio countertops to let all the on-air board operators test out ideas.

Another moving stage takes place this week. Professional movers arrive Thursday to take as much furniture as possible from the Hoban Building down to the historic Fire Station No. 3. Their main focus is the Underwriting, Marketing, and Events offices.
