A judge ruled that Spokane City Council Candidate Tyler LeMasters' name will not be allowed to appear on the November ballot.

LeMasters is a realtor and former aide to Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers. He was running against Betsy Wilkerson, a city councilwoman who was appointed to represent the South Spokane City Council District in 2019.

Two people are suing Spokane City Council candidate Tyler LeMasters, asking a judge to remove him from the November ballot.

They argue he doesn’t meet a key requirement to be eligible to be a city council member, being a resident of his district for a year.

The Spokane Regional Board of Health is now looking for a permanent new health officer.

During its regular meeting on Thursday the board voted to spend up to $50,000 on a recruitment firm to find qualified candidates.

Water fluoridation may be in the city of Spokane’s future.

The city council is considering a request by dentists to fluoridate the city’s water supply. The proposal may be added to the council’s agenda as early as next Monday.

Water fluoridation has been proposed – and rejected – before by Spokane residents. Supporters such as Dr. Elisabeth Warder believe it’s time to consider it again.

A two year long debate has led to a new name for an old community center in Spokane.

The Spokane City Council on Monday night renamed the longstanding community center in the city’s East Central neighborhood after the late civil rights icon Martin Luther King, Jr.
