Former Spokane Regional Health District officer Dr. Bob Lutz may take his former employer to court over his 2020 dismissal.

Lutz submitted an administrative claim against SRHD that was made public Wednesday. The 40-page document alleges wrongful termination in violation of federal and state law, and defamation.

The Washington Board of Health says it will hold a hearing as it decides whether to take action after the removal of former Spokane Regional Health District Health Officer Bob Lutz.

A preliminary Washington Board of Health investigation released Tuesday found that Spokane Regional Health District Administrator Amelia Clark likely violated state law when she removed Dr. Bob Lutz from his role as health officer.

The Spokane Regional Board of Health is now looking for a permanent new health officer.

During its regular meeting on Thursday the board voted to spend up to $50,000 on a recruitment firm to find qualified candidates.

Spokane COVID Response

Tuesday will mark one month since Spokane County recorded its first confirmed case of coronavirus. Since then, 275 people have tested positive; 15 have died.

On Monday, community leaders held a briefing to answer some of the questions they heard during an online and telephone town hall meeting from last Wednesday. They included a question for Spokane Mayor Nadine Woodward about how economic and other restrictions would be lifted, when it’s time.

Spokane Has First Three Confirmed COVID-19 Cases

Spokane County Health Officer Bob Lutz has confirmed the county’s first three cases of Covid-19.

Lutz told reporters that he learned of the three confirmations this morning [Saturday].

WA Governor Orders Schools Closed, Bans Large Gatherings

Washington Governor Jay Inslee has ordered that large gatherings be prohibited statewide, extending a ban he originally invoked for King, Pierce and Snohomish Counties.

Inslee's announcement came just a few hours after Spokane County Health Officer Bob Lutz announced he’s requiring that events that will feature 250 people or more be postponed or cancelled for the next 30 days.

Providence Sacred Heart

Two American citizens with the novel coronavirus were transferred to Spokane’s Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center this morning [THURSDAY], and two more were expected in the afternoon.

The patients’ identities are unknown, as is the severity of infection.

Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency held a celebration of its 50th anniversary Thursday at a ceremony in Riverfront Park. Several dignitaries spoke about the accomplishments of the agency, and there was ceremonial tree planting.

“I would like everyone to join me, just take one deep breath," said county commissioner Al French. "You know if you did that 50 years ago, you’d be choking, hacking, and your eyes would be tearing up right now.”

French opened the ceremony by citing some of the agency’s accomplishments.
