Idaho is in line to get several billion dollars in infrastructure spending. The money from the bill approved by Congress last week will help pay for road and public transportation updates, as well as wildfire and broadband spending.

Most of the Pacific Northwest’s Congressional delegation supported the long-awaited infrastructure package approved by Congress on Friday. The bill will increase funding for projects in Washington state, such as railroad crossings, public transit and wildfire prevention.

Natasha Hill, a Spokane attorney, has announced a Democratic bid for Congress against long-time Republican Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers.

Hill owns a law firm in Spokane where she practices civil and entertainment law. She has also been involved in civil rights protests and groups in the area, and was a member of the county’s redistricting committee.

She is endorsed by Spokane’s Democratic state legislators and Spokane City Councilwoman Betsy Wilkerson.

Congress is in the midst of debating historic investments into childcare, education and healthcare. President Biden’s Build Back Better Plan faces resistance from Republicans and two senate Democrats, who have argued the package’s initial price tag, around $3 trillion, now $2 trillion, was too high.

Washington Senator Patty Murray says one key piece of the plan, universal preschool and subsidies for childcare, hangs in the balance of those negotiations. She argues childcare is an essential piece to getting the economy back on track.

Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers has tested positive for the coronavirus.

In a statement released Friday, McMorris Rodgers said she has been vaccinated and had only mild symptoms. She is quarantiningat home. She said both her Eastern Washington offices, and Washington D.C. office will remain open. 

"As I have said for months, I encourage everyone in Eastern Washington to talk to your doctor about getting the vaccine if you haven’t already,” McMorris Rodgers said.

Spokane Public Radio has reached out to her office for further comment.

Washington Senator Patty Murray Seeking Reelection

Washington State Senator Patty Murray announced Monday that she is seeking re-election in 2022.

Murray, a Democrat, was first elected to the Senate in 1992 and was Washington’s first woman senator. During her time in the Senate, Murray has focused on family leave and childcare.

Before she was elected to Congress, she was a state senator and a school board member in the north Seattle suburb of Shoreline.

The New York Times is reporting sources close to Donald Trump say 5th district Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Eastern Washington will be selected to be the new US Secretary of the interior.

Even before the official announcement, the Spokane City Council President is announcing he will run for her seat. Democrat Ben Stuckart has served two terms as Spokane city council president.  Friday, Stuckart announced he plans to run for the fifth congressional district , and said he had been considering the run since before the national election:
