Most Inland Northwest school districts are off for spring break either this week or next.

We’ve heard the news about how Covid has spread in areas where students are congregating while on break, especially in Florida. Or in Pullman, where Whitman County health authorities reported 73 new cases last weekend and 185 during the last 14 days.

But health experts, such as Dr. Dan Getz, aren’t as worried about a Covid spike with K-12 students out of class.

Spokane Regional Health District/Zoom

Today on the Inland Journal podcast, we’ll spend a few minutes with two Spokane doctors who have been very involved with the care of Covid patients. Drs. Dan Getz and Ben Arthurs briefed reporters on Wednesday about the situations in their respective hospitals when it comes to treating people who are battling the coronavirus. Getz is the chief medical officer at Providence Sacred Heart. Dr. Ben Arthurs is a pulmonologist and intensivist for MultiCare.

Spokane COVID Response

Spokane County health officials are bracing for another holiday weekend and wondering if it will lead to the same results as the last holiday weekend.

Spokane County had just moved to phase 2 of the reopening protocol heading into Memorial Day and the case numbers have since rapidly risen.
