mask mandates

Coeur d'Alene School Board

Two members of the Coeur d'Alene School Board announced their resignations Friday, effective immediately.

The decisions from board chair Jennifer Brumley and trustee Tambra Pickford came a week after a scheduled board meeting that was to have considered a mask requirement for schools. That meeting was cancelled after angry anti-mask protestors showed up. In a September 28 letter to parents, Brumley wrote that she was concerned about her own safety and the safety of others at the meeting.

A new Washington mask mandate goes into effect today. It applies to crowds of more than 500 people in outdoor settings, even for people who have been vaccinated.

“For anyone wondering why we are doing this, I guess it should be pretty obvious. It’s because we’re seeing evidence of transmission, unfortunately, in outdoor settings. The Watershed Festival at the Gorge led to more than 200 infections from that one event and it was outdoors," said Governor Jay Inslee last week.

Governor Jay Inslee’s order goes into effect today [Monday].

“Restaurants and offices. Shops. It covers everyone in a public-facing setting, regardless of vaccination status. So, in a place that is open to the public, everyone needs to wear their mask in those conditions," he said.

Washington Governor Jay Inslee says the state will drop all coronavirus-related restrictions by June 30 at the latest.

But Cassie Sauer from the Washington State Hospital Association says, even after that date, mask mandates will remain in effect in most, if not all, hospitals in the state.

Masks are back in Idaho, at least for the local governments that want them.

In the latest tiff between them, Lt. Governor Janice McGeachin issued an executive order banning mask mandates while Governor Little was out of town. As soon as he returned, he rescinded it.
The incident is an escalation of tensions as the 2022 race for governor heats up.

An Idaho House committee has approved a bill that prohibits the state or any local government agency from imposing a mask mandate to deal with an infectious disease.

The legislation says entities such as health districts may recommend wearing masks, but not require it.

The bill had broad support during a Monday hearing in Boise.

An Idaho Senate committee said yes Tuesday to a bill that gives final authority over countywide public health orders to county commissioners.

Sen. Steve Vick [R-Coeur d'Alene] says a board of health vote to declare a mask mandate or other health-related restriction would have to pass one more hurdle before being enacted.
