Washington Opens Covid Vaccinations To All Adults Today

Washington opens Covid vaccines to all adults, as well as 16- and 17-year-olds, on Thursday. Health providers say they’re bracing for a big rush of people who have waited patiently for their turn.

The Veterans’ Administration in Spokane is expanding its Covid vaccination efforts to veterans, their caregivers and family members.

The expansion is authorized by the Saves Lives Act approved recently by Congress.

When Washington opens Covid vaccinations to anyone older than 16 on April 15, some believe that will lead to a rush of new people that will overwhelm the state’s Covid vaccine application system. The Department of Health's Michele Roberts isn’t so sure.

Washington state health officials say nearly one million residents have received at least one of the Covid 19 vaccinations in the state. That's a major mile marker as they push to meet a goal of vaccinating 45,000 per day.

Even so, they say they are seeing inequity in the number of minorities who are receiving the shots.

Covid Vaccination Continues This Weekend At Spokane Arena

Spokane’s Covid vaccination site at the Arena will continue to inoculate people during the weekend and Monday.

Kelley Charvet from CHAS Health says the agency has improved its operational efficiency since a chaotic debut on Wednesday.

Hospitals around the Northwest are busy vaccinating their highest-risk employees.

The Providence Health System in Spokane began that work last Friday. Spokeswoman Beth Hegde says inoculations will continue all week at Sacred Heart.

The group of Western scientists that reviews Covid vaccine decisions made by the Food and Drug Administration has approved the new Moderna vaccine.

Washington Governor Jay Inslee announced Sunday the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup has voted unanimously to put this second vaccine on the market.

Inslee’s office says the governor expects the first doses of the Moderna vaccine to begin arriving in Olympia this week.

The Pfizer coronavirus vaccine is in different phases of distribution around the Northwest.

Providence reports it has received almost 4,000 doses. Spokeswoman Beth Hegde says the health system’s highest risk caregivers will be inoculated with it on Friday.
