Music Director Finalist

For today’s interview, Spokane Symphony Music Director Finalist Jayce Ogren came to the station with guest cellist István Várdai from Hungary, who will be taking on Prokofiev’s formidable Symphony Concerto at the “Classics 9: Russian Virtuosity” concert that Jayce is conducting this weekend.

Performances will be at 8 PM on Saturday and 3 PM Sunday in the Martin Woldson Theatre at the Fox.

The weekend program Arthur Arnold will conduct includes works from Francis Poulec, Camille Saint-Saens and Bela Bartok. It will feature Simone Porter on violin.

Arthur Arnold, currently music director of the Moscow Symphony Orchestra in Russia, is one of five candidates for the position of music director of the Spokane Symphony. He will be the conductor of the program, "Classics 8: French Mystique," on Saturday and Sunday.

Conductor Rei Hotoda, one of the Spokane Symphony’s Music Director Finalists, arrived for an interview in our studio today along with talented violinist Angelo Xiang Yu, who is featuring in the symphony’s “Classics 7: Korngold & Shostakovich” concert this weekend.

The two performances will be at 8 PM on Saturday, March 9 and 3 PM on Sunday, March 10 in the Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox.

On this cold, snowy morning, two musical men arrived at our station for an interview: Spokane Symphony Music Director Finalist and Guest Conductor James Lowe and accomplished pianist Haochen Zhang, who will feature in the symphony's upcoming “Classics 6: Passion’s Pursuit” concert.
