On this cold and wintry New Year's Eve, Verne had a couple sunny guests in the studio to tell us about an annual event you may or may not know happens this time of year. Eastern Washington native flutist Alicia Mielke returns home from Boston to collaborate with pianist Kevin Garnica to present an evening of flute and piano music. The recital, entitled Coast to Coast Barn Concert, marks Alicia's trek from Boston in the east coast to meet Kevin, who lives in Los Angeles, here in Washington. Alicia met Kevin during her undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin while he was pursuing his doctorate degree, and they have enjoyed playing with each other ever since.
The Coast to Coast Barn Concerts will feature works for flute and piano by C.P.E. Bach, Lukas Foss, Bela Bartok, Carl Reinecke, and others. Alicia and Kevin will play Saturday, January 2nd at 7:00pm and Sunday, January 3rd at 3:00pm. The venue is the Fair Play Arena and Concert Hall, which is located at 35099 Rolinco Road E., Harrington, WA 99134, about 60 miles west of Spokane on I-90.
All proceeds from the concert benefit Spokane Public Radio.
