Seattle-based, Peruvian-born artist and curator Rafael Soldi stopped into the KPBX studio to offer more detail on his participation in the Visiting Artist Lecture Series (VALS) this week as well as the new exhibition of his work at Eastern Washington University.
Soldi will be giving one VALS talk at Spokane Falls Community College on Wednesday, January 25 at 11:30am. That will be followed by another VALS talk at EWU on Thursday, January 26 at 2pm. Both events are free and open to the public.
His exhibition Mother Tongue also opens at the EWU Gallery of Art on January 26 and runs there until March 9.
During the interview, Soldi talked about the experiences that inform his work, such as his emigration from his native Peru, his Catholic school education and the "paradoxical relationship" he developed with his country of birth, "a place that rejected you but also raised you."
The Visiting Artist Lecture Series is a collaboration between Spokane Falls Community College, Eastern Washington University and the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture.
