This week on Director's Choice we get ready for Halloween with a pair of spooky shows. First we hear a vintage episode from the Love + Radio podcast with an exploration of the Frankenstein Family Crypt in 1952. Paranormal observations by an eight-year-old. The haunting of an unkind kitty, a discussion of the ghost story structure, and a very scary pantry door. (Seriously). Then in the second half-hour it's "The In-between," an episode of HumaNature, with tales of a possessed basement. A magic mirror. A shop of spirits. Mysterious lights where they don’t belong. Gather around the campfire as we open the portal to the other side.

There's a vast media landscape in the Middle East - and radical Islamists have used it to spread their violent ideology. But in the past few years, new broadcasters have taken up the fight, using their bully pulpit to fight back. On this episode of America Abroad, we take a look at what that fight looks like. We hear about new television shows that lampoon ISIS, liberal religious clerics who are finding new ways to speak to people, and how some of these media personalities are finding ways around repressive regimes.
