National Poor People's Campaign

Toward the end of Dr. Martin Luther King’s life, he said America was moving “from the era of civil rights to the era of human rights.” That led to the start of what became known as the Poor People’s Campaign. Fifty years after his death, some of King's followers have called for a renewal of that campaign.

Beginning next Monday (5/14), people in 40 states will kick off a 40-day campaign aimed at bringing attention to issues of poverty and the lack of economic security many people feel today.

Leading the Spokane effort —   and one of the tri-chairs of Washington’s version of the Poor People’s Campaign — is Liz Moore, who also serves as director of Spokane’s Peace and Justice Action League.
