Spokane County Sheriff’s candidate Scott Maclay — also known as Dump Ozzie Dot Com — was killed Monday in a motorcycle accident near St. Maries, Idaho.
A Benewah County sheriff’s statement says Maclay was driving along Highway 3 when his bike ran into gravel on the side of the road and slid. A man who was with him and witnessed the accident says Maclay was thrown from the machine and hit his head and shoulders on the roadway.
When officers arrived to investigate, they found bystanders performing CPR on Maclay, but they weren’t able to revive him.
Maclay was a longtime critic of Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich, claiming the three-term incumbent covered up crimes involving his employees. Maclay legally changed his name before jumping into the race to challenge him in the August primary. Maclay ran as an independent. Knezovich won that election with more than 85% of the vote.
