Idaho Proposition 1

Idaho’s Proposition 1 has drawn attention for its TV ads: “The horses are off the track, thanks to the politicians when they killed off Idaho horse racing, along with the jobs and school funding racing provides. So let’s set things right by voting yes on Prop. 1.”

Opponents reacted to ads by insisting the measure really is about gambling.

We talk with Todd Dvorak, the chief spokesman for the campaign to Save Idaho Horse Racing. He says Proposition 1 is about reviving an industry that is important to Idaho’s history.

One of the chief opponents is Ken Andrus, a former state legislator from Lava Hot Springs and the chairman of the Idaho United Against Prop 1 Coalition. He argues Idaho isn’t ready for an expansion of gaming.
