At least two Inland Northwest events will be held Saturday, the same day as the fourth annual national Women’s March.
In Spokane, participants will begin gathering at the Red Wagon in Riverfront Park at noon. A rally is scheduled to begin at 12:30, with a small, but diverse, group of speakers, followed by a three-quarter mile march through downtown.
Murphy Sullivan, one of the event organizers, says the rally isn’t affiliated with the event in Washington, D.C. But she says it’s a chance for women to mark the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage and to express their support for issues such as women’s reproductive rights and easy access to health care.
Participants are asked to dress appropriately for the weather and bring signs that they can carry on the walk.
The fourth annual North Idaho Women’s March will feature a rally at Sandpoint Middle School. Doors will open at 11.
Speakers will include Rebecca Schroeder from the group Reclaim Idaho and Democrat Nancy Harris, who is challenging Jim Risch for U.S. Senate seat. Organizers say the event will also address issues related to white supremacy and offer participants ideas for combating it in their towns.
The indoor rally will be followed by an outdoor march along Sandpoint’s Community Trail.
