Local percussionist Taylor Belote performs seasonal tunes with an island vibe

Percussionist and Rogers High School Music Director Taylor Belote came into the SPR performance space to play a half-dozen holiday songs on the steel drum.

Belote's setlist included "The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy," a West Indian carol popularized by Harry Belafonte, as well as a SoCa (soul–calypso) version of "Here we come a-Caroling."

Belote, who was recently featured on the Thursday Arts (P)review, got his start on the steelpan at the same high school where now teaches.
