Spokane Elected Officials Declare State Of Emergency

Doug Nadvornick/SPR

The governments in Spokane County today [Monday] invoked an emergency situation due to the coronavirus. Correspondent Nick Deshais watched a news conference held to announce that.

“The county declared an emergency. Spokane Mayor Nadine Woodward said we’re in an emergency. They all said it’s now time to come together as a community, to prepare for, as Ozzie Knezovich said, the sheriff, it could be two weeks of disruption or it could be two months of disruption."

The county says the declarations are a procedural move meant to make it easier to deploy some forms of funding. Also, that will give more flexibility in working with people covered by current labor agreements.
