This year-end TA(P) looks at grants for Idaho artists and the retirement of The Bookshelf

This week's episode of the Thursday Arts (P)review — where the "p" is parenthetical because we look both forward and back — includes the following:

  • An interview with Michael Faison, executive director of the Idaho Commission on the Arts. He talks about current grant opportunities for Idaho-based artists and arts-minded organizations. The deadline is January 31, 2023. Visit the Arts Idaho website or call (208) 334-2119 for details.
  • A preview of the final episode of The Bookshelf, the long-running KPBX program that often featured serialized readings of novels and non-fiction.
  • A brief recap of Radio Play Co-Lab, a new initiative between Spokane Public Radio and Spokane Playwrights Laboratory. The collaboration's first two radio plays, "Brothers Before" and "Con-Science," were broadcast as part of the final week of The Bookshelf.
  • An excerpt from Truman Capote's bittersweet tale of friendship and fruitcake, read by Sara Edlin-Marlowe on a recent episode of Soundspace.

Trying to place the intro music? It's "New Wave (Instrumental)" by John Vanderslice.

The Thursday Arts (P)review airs every Thursday at 12pm on KPBX with a roundup of arts-related news and information from across the Inland Northwest.
