Another day of fun with the Spokane Symphony as we reach the midpoint of Symphony Week. It was a double header this time, so we've divided it into two parts (See Part 2 here). The first segment featured the symphony's new Assistant Conductor, Jorge Luis Uzcategui, and Music Education Director, Janet Napoles. Verne talked with Jorge about his experiences growing up in Venezuela, his knowledge of El Sistema, his transition from pianist to composer, and his collaborations with Janet on the symphony's new progressive education program Music Innovates. They discussed this exciting new endeavor and how they hope to reach young people using high-quality musical mentorship.
The Spokane Symphony's Classics concert series begins this weekend - Saturday, September 19th at 8:00pm and Sunday, September 20th at 3:00pm - with "Russian Adventures," featuring Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain, Bartok's Piano Concerto No. 1 and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 2, "Little Russian." Tickets available now online at TicketsWest or by contacting/visiting the Box Office at the Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox.
