About this opportunity:
Are you passionate about classical music? Would you like to connect with SPR Classical listeners who share that passion? Spokane Public Radio is looking for multiple Substitute Classical Music Hosts to join a pool of qualified substitutes for regular classical hosts on SPR Classical 91.9. This is a part-time position, scheduled as-needed and dependent on your availability. This position reports to the Classical Music and Program Director.
Your job is to actively engage your audience, providing context for their favorite pieces and helping them discover exciting new works. SPR Classical is a concert hall the size of the Inland Northwest, and you welcome our listeners into that community.

Duties Include:

  • Playlist curation from SPR’s classical library (physical and/or digital)
  • On-air board operation
  • Live-announcing music, underwriting, and Station IDs
  • Playing prerecorded promos and previews as scheduled
  • Entering key data into NPR reporting system

Skills Needed:

  • Knowledge of and interest in music, particularly classical
  • Reliability and ability to work independently
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Comfort with speaking live to an audience, or eagerness to learn
  • Some familiarity with Spokane Public Radio, particularly SPR Classical 91.9, including its programming and hosts

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Music-focused degree from accredited university and/or equivalent experience with classical music on a professional level
  • Experience in live radio, whether in a community, public, college, or professional setting

Schedule:
Varies, in-person. This is not a remote position.
Shifts that may require coverage:

  • 8:00-11:00 am, Monday-Friday
  • 3:00-6:00 pm, Monday-Friday
  • 10:00am-12:00pm, Saturday
  • 10:00am-12:00pm, Sunday

Physical Demands:
Visual/hearing ability enough to quickly analyze and comprehend written/verbal communication and all business documents is required.

Salary range: $18.00-$24.00/hour depending upon experience
