Wintry Weather Mix Could Lead to Flooding in the Palouse

Chris Bishop/Blanchard, ID

Weather forecasters say the mix of precipitation around the Inland Northwest is making getting around tricky. It may also lead to flooding in parts of southeastern Washington and northern Idaho.

National Weather Service meteorologist Steve Bodnar says people north of Highway 2 from Spokane to Wenatchee have seen mostly snow on Friday. South of that has seen more of a mix. The area from the Blue Mountains into the Palouse, where it has been warmer, has seen more rain. Bodnar says a flood advisory will continue in that area until late Saturday morning.

“One concern we do have with that is they may see over an inch of rainfall by Saturday morning and so we may see some flooding concerns, especially in urban areas where the snow may be clogging the drains and/or around Paradise Creek,” Bodnar said.

Authorities warn drivers not to try to cross flooded areas in their vehicles.
