"Good Night, Fred" by Chris Cook

Chris Cook is Spokane’s Poet Laureate for 2019-2021. 

His first collection of poetry, The View from the Broken Micwas published in 2012 (Gray Dog Press). Additional work has been published by Sage Hill Press, Scablands Books, and The Spokesman-Review. His children’s poetry has been published by Little, Brown Books, Meadowbrook Press, and Scholastic Press. His collection, Damn Good Cookie, was released in 2016 by Korrektiv Press.

He is a long-standing member of the Spokane Symphony trumpet section and one of the founders of the Spokane Falls Brass Band.  He has also been the Washington State Yo-Yo Champion.  

Verne Windham got his start at Spokane Public Radio 20 years ago. “I came in to complain and they hired me.” He’s now the Program Director, as well as the host of Morning Classical and Concert of the Week. When choosing music for Morning Classical, Verne likes to keep the agenda as broadly defined as possible. For Concert of the Week, he focuses on the best of recent local performances, mostly classical in nature. For many years, Verne was also the conductor of the Spokane Youth Orchestra. He enjoys gardening, his vintage car and playing French horn.
