Tribal Leader Pakootas To Face Congresswoman McMorris-Rodgers

The primary election results for U-S Congress in eastern Washington were fairly predictable, with GOP incumbent Cathy McMorris Rodgers winning 52 percent of the vote. For the fifth congressional district, Democrat Joe Pakootas won nearly 30 percent and will go on to the general election. Pakootas, the Colville Tribe’s chair, says he is encouraged by both his and his opponent’s results.Pakootas: “We know where we stand and we know what we have to do to progress through the next 90 days. She did get 52 percent which I understand is quite a bit lower than what her normal numbers come in at, so that’s also encouraging.”

McMorris Rodgers has beat democrats in five consecutive general elections, earning at least 56 percent each time.

Independent candidate Dave Wilson and Republican Tom Horne did not make it past the primary in this race.
