Fireworks are legal today and tomorrow [Wednesday and Thursday] in many parts of Washington, banned in other areas. Exactly where those areas are isn’t always easy to determine.
Washington state law allows the sale of fireworks from 9 am to 11 pm on the Fourth of July. It’s legal to shoot them off from 9 am until midnight. And then, on the fifth, it’s ok to buy from 9 am to 9 pm and shoot them off from 9 am to 11 pm. Hours may vary a bit from the state law in different areas.
That said, many counties, towns and cities have banned fireworks or placed restrictions on hours or localities where fireworks can be discharged.
In Spokane County, the only places where fireworks are legal are on private property in Airway Heights, Deer Park and Medical Lake. Sales and use are legal Wednesday, but not Thursday.
It’s a little different in some of the rural counties. In Stevens, for example, the only place where fireworks are forbidden is in Springdale. There are no restrictions in Pend Oreille and Ferry Counties. Fireworks are banned in unincorporated Lincoln and Okanogan Counties, but not in their towns, with the exception of Winthrop. Fireworks are allowed in most of Grant County; the only exception is the city of Moses Lake. They’re legal in Adams and Asotin Counties, with a few deviations in hours from the state. Whitman County and its towns and cities allow fireworks, but not until noon on Thursday.
You can find a table with the specifics for each county and municipality at the Washington State Patrol website.
