Inland Journal, Aug. 23, 2019: Teaching The Holocaust To High School Students

Doug Nadvornick/SPR

Today on the Inland Journal podcast, teaching the Holocaust to high school students.

This summer Central Valley High School teacher Karen Floyd was chosen this summer to go to Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center in Jerusalem. She attended what was termed an advanced learning seminar, sponsored by the group Echoes and Reflections. She wanted to learn more about how to teach her students about the Holocaust. She was one of about 60 teachers in the nation who took advantage of the opportunity.

Floyd is not a history teacher; she’s an English teacher, but she uses one of the classic Holocaust texts as part of her curriculum.

The Holocaust is a subject about which she’s passionate, as you’ll hear in our conversation.
