New Spokane Health Survey: People Wearing Fewer Masks Than Last Week

Doug Nadvornick/SPR

Spokane County health officials say a new survey shows fewer people are wearing face coverings in public.

Health Officer Bob Lutz says the health district last week sent out volunteers to several venues around the county to observe and count how many people were wearing masks.

A week ago, a similar survey found about 65% of people with some kind of face covering. This week, he says, high fifties.

“Unfortunately, we are, not surprisingly, still seeing men wearing face coverings less than women," he said. "Part of our messaging really has to be about the importance of the face coverings, face masks, going forward.”

Lutz says the surveys aren’t meant to have any scientific value, but they do give health officials a snapshot of the behavior of people in the community.
