The director and key cast members talk about and perform songs from the musical

John Jacob Bernal, Michael Davis, Oliver Donahoe and Craig Hirt joined E.J. Iannelli in the KPBX studio to chat about the Roald Dahl-inspired musical Willy Wonka. A new production opens this weekend at Spokane Children’s Theatre.

Donahoe is playing Charlie Bucket, Davis is playing his father and Bernal is playing Willy Wonka. Hirt is directing this production.

The actors talked about their previous experiences with Spokane Children’s Theatre, their choices in portraying their characters and how polite the actors in the "naughty" roles actually are.

Hirt also discussed some of the musical's iconic tunes. The interview was bookended by two live in-studio performances from that songbook: Bernal singing "Pure Imagination” and later Davis and Donahoe singing, "Think Positive."

Willy Wonka opens this Friday (April 14) at Spokane Children’s Theatre and runs until Sunday, April 30. For tickets or more information, visit the Spokane Children’s Theatre's website or call (509) 328-4886.
