Art Show: John Thamm: The World Observed from the Ground Up

Spokane Artist John Thamm Explores the Human Condition in New Show, "A World Observed: From the Ground Up"

SPOKANE, WA—Shotgun Studios is proud to announce "A World Observed: From the Ground Up," a new exhibition featuring recent paintings and sculptures by local artist John Thamm. The show opens on October 3 and runs through November 15.

Thamm’s work offers a powerful and introspective look at the world, spanning three distinct series. "Cultural Heroes and Heroines from my Youth" celebrates figures who have shaped his life and vision. "From in Front of and Behind" explores unique perspectives through striking compositions.

The show also features a poignant series titled "Souls on the Streets," inspired by Thamm’s observations of downtown Spokane. While frequenting the Satellite Diner, he was moved by the struggles of people on Sprague Avenue dealing with addiction, mental illness, and poverty. Thamm painted these figures without identifying faces, capturing their raw vulnerability. "Painting these figures brought up feelings of anger, sadness, and pure desperation, and helped me to better understand the complexity of the 'homeless' situation," says Thamm. "We are all Souls on the Street."

The exhibition will also include political works that speak directly to the current state of the world.
