Matrilineal Kinship in Aegean Prehistory: Settlements, Figurines, and the Absence of Men

Matrilineal Kinship in Aegean Prehistory: Settlements, Figurines, and the Absence of Men

Dr. Sabina Cvecek, Field Museum, Austrian Academy of Sciences

National AIA Lecture

Were communities in prehistoric Greece matriarchal, matrilineal, or simply centered around women? In this talk, Dr. Cveček revisits that long-standing question, exploring what different types of archaeological evidence—from settlement patters to figurine use—can reveal about gender and family life in the Neolithic and Early Bronze Age Aegean.
