Hello to all concert fans! The Panhandle Symphony Orchestra invites you to its Spring Concert to be held on Tuesday, April 30th, at 7:00pm in the Lake City High School Auditorium. The theme for our concert can be seen in the music that you will hear, especially if we are encouraged to do an encore by our wonderful audience. Our selections for this concert are based around music that is very familiar and fun to listen to such as “The Liberty Bell March” by John Philip Sousa, which often brought people to their feet to dance in its early days, in the late 1800’s. Presently, it is traditionally performed at Presidential Inaugurations.

“Second American Folk Rhapsody” by Clare Grundman highlights early American folk tunes such as “Billy Boy” and “Skip to my Lou”.

Aaron Copland composed “Saturday Night Waltz”, a tender melody bringing to mind early rural life, wide-open prairies and birdsong. At its conclusion, you will likely want to hear more Copland … and so, “Variations on a Shaker Melody” follows.

“A Tribute to Henry Mancini“, revives favorites he composed between 1958 and 1964. Along came “Baby Elephant Walk”, “Charade”, “Pink Panther”, “Days of Wine and Roses”, and “Peter Gunn”.

“Nostalgia” by Rossana Galante, is aptly titled as it communicates a fond remembrance to listeners.

“A Salute to the Big Bands” will treat you to the music of the era of the Big Bands. The orchestra participates vocally in a section of this number.

“Gershwin by George” features our favorite songs from Gershwin’s legacy ending with “Rhapsody in Blue”.

The Panhandle Symphony Orchestra presents its concerts FREE to the public and is led by our conductor, Tim Sandford.
