From the Studio: Spokane Stage Left Theater presents "The Controversy of Valladolid"

Spokane Public Radio

Director Maynard Villers and actors Darlene McCarty, Bob Nelson, and Steven Schneidmiller of Spokane Stage Left Theater came to the studio to discuss their newest production: “The Controversy of Valladolid.” This play focuses on the shocking sixteenth-century debates over the “humanity” of millions of American natives that occurred an ocean away, in a Spanish monastery.

Performances will be at 7:30 PM on January 11 & 12 and 2 PM on January 13, with more showtimes each weekend through January 27.

Verne Windham got his start at Spokane Public Radio 20 years ago. “I came in to complain and they hired me.” He’s now the Program Director, as well as the host of Morning Classical and Concert of the Week. When choosing music for Morning Classical, Verne likes to keep the agenda as broadly defined as possible. For Concert of the Week, he focuses on the best of recent local performances, mostly classical in nature. For many years, Verne was also the conductor of the Spokane Youth Orchestra. He enjoys gardening, his vintage car and playing French horn.
