A beat-up old baseball cap is floating around the country looking for one head to settle upon - that of NPR news reporter and KPBX alumna Laksmi Singh. The gimme cap with slightly crooked home-applied lettering proclaims "I Am Lakshmi Singh". It was created three years ago by an aspiring radio producer in LA namedSeanRameswaram.

In his struggle to find work on a nationally distributed program, Rameswaram was heartened by hearing Singh on NPR newscasts. As he put it - if someone with another weird Indian-ish name could make it in public radio, he could too.

In recent months, he's been posting photos of people wearing the cap, all with the caption - No You're Not. But if Singh ever dons the cap, her picture will read - Yes You Are!

His dream might come true. Singh has told Rameswaram she'd be happy to put on the cap at an NPR gathering in mid-May. The cap has become so popular that Rameswaram is thinking about mass producing it, perhaps as a premium for fund drives.

One follower of his Twitter account said she wants a hat saying "I am Neda Ulaby."
