Second COVID-19 dose vaccinations to begin at Spokane Arena next week

Many Spokane residents who have been inoculated at the mass Covid vaccination site at the Spokane Area could get their second dose within days.

Kelli Hawkins, the communications manager for the Spokane Regional Health District, said the switch to second doses is a part of a larger Washington State Department of Health push to get people fully vaccinated.

“I do know they have released information about prioritizing second doses for a couple weeks," she said. "That will happen here in Spokane too and our second doses will start taking place next week.”

She said eligible community members will be able to participate in one more sign up which opens tonight before the Spokane Arena switches to second doses of the vaccine for a few weeks.

The switch to second doses will mean far fewer people will be able to make appointments for first doses. Most of the people who will get the second dose made an appointment when they got their first shot. Hawkins said there is not yet information available on how much first dose vaccine will be available in the next few weeks, if any, or how many first dose appointments will be available.

In the first four weeks the Spokane Arena has been open as a vaccine clinic, more than 10,000 people have been vaccinated.
